BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team earned a dominating, 9-0, win over St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn Saturday afternoon, as the team finished regular season play.
With the win, the Panthers earned their 10th victory of 2019, marking the second time in three years they have reach double-digit wins. Overall, they finished 10-2 and 5-2 in conference play, which locked them into the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament. Meanwhile, the Bears of St. Joseph's dropped to 1-10 and 0-7.
During the victory, Purchase didn't drop a set along the way and finished with four sweeps.
Finbar Stuart (SR/Woodstock, NY) recorded two of those sweeps, as he won his No. 3 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, and his No. 1 doubles match with Issac Jones (JR/Ossining, NY), 8-0.
Matthew Waterhouse (FR/Massapequa Park, NY) and
Austin Schmitt (JR/Hilston, NY) at No. 2 doubles and
Ziaire Benjamin (SO/Spring Valley, NY) at No. 6 singles provided the other sweeps for the Panthers.
Up next for Purchase is the start of the Skyline Conference playoffs.
The No. 3 Panthers are set to take on No. 2 Farmingdale State this upcoming week in the first round matchup. Farmingdale will host Purchase because of the
match results from April 13th, when Farmingdale topped Purchase, 6-3.
