NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's tennis team opened Skyline Conference play with a convincing win Tuesday evening, as the Panthers defeated the Knights of Mount Saint Mary, 7-2.

With the result, Purchase improved to 4-0 on the year, which is the team's best start to a season since joining the Skyline Conference back in 2008. The Knights meanwhile, dropped to 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the Skyline.

In the doubles matchups, the Panthers won two of the three contests. The #1 duo of Courage Crawford and Isaac Jones topped their opposition, 8-3, while the #3 pairing of Austin Schmitt and Matthew Waterhouse enjoyed an even easier win, 8-1. Finbar Stuart and James Ham nearly completed the sweep for Purchase at the #2 spot, but ultimately fell, 8-7 (10-3). 

The Panthers' dominance continued into singles play, as the visitors took five of the six contests.

#1 Crawford, #4 Waterhouse, #5 Stuart and #6 Schmitt all enjoyed two-set sweeps. Meanwhile, #2 Jones collected Purchase's final win of the evening, as he topped his opponent, 6-0, 6-7 (7-5) and 10-5.

Up next for the Panthers is the Skyline home opener, as the team takes on United States Merchant Marine Academy on April 6th at 10 a.m.
