Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Purchase College softball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference games to SUNY Old Westbury, concluding its 2021 road campaign, on Sunday at Rams Field. Despite a valiant effort, the Panthers were shutout in both games by scores of 3-0 and 8-0, respectively.

Purchase entered the twinbill with a 7-3 winning record against Old Westbury (dating back to 2015).

Game One: Old Westbury 3, Purchase 0
Senior pitcher Kelly Agostini (Centereach, NY) recorded a trio of strikeouts and held Old Westbury scoreless over the first three innings of game one. In the bottom of the fourth, however, Old West's Christina Hassett broke the scoring ice with a homerun to left field.

Old Westbury would score again in the fifth and sixth frames en route to the 3-0 victory.

Freshman second baseman Julia Marsala (Shoreham, NY) went 2-for-3 to lead the Panthers. Sophomore catcher Brianna Palmero (Hyde Park, NY) went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, while junior left fielder Karina Medina (Brooklyn, NY) capped the offensive effort with one hit in two trips to the plate.

Game Two: Old Westbury 8, Purchase 0 (5 inn.)
The Old Westbury bats stayed hot and the pitching backed them up in game two. The hosts jumped ahead early, producing three runs on two hits and one PC error in the bottom of the first inning. Johanna Metz recorded the game-winning RBI with a double to left field.

Old Westbury stretched its lead to 6-0 in the fourth and tacked on security and game-ending runs (run rule) in the fifth to lock in the 8-0 win.

Hassett picked up her third win of the season on the mound for Old Westbury. She tallied five strikeouts and allowed just one hit, while holding Purchase scoreless over five innings of action.

The two teams will battle it out again in a doubleheader on Tuesday (rescheduled from May 8) at Purchase. The Panthers will celebrate Senior Day with a ceremony prior to the 3 p.m. opening pitch.
