PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College Athletic Department closes out a memorable chapter for women's basketball, saying farewell to head coach Varrell Eddie. After 10 years with the Panthers—five at the helm—Eddie has announced he will be stepping down from his post.
"Varrell served as a wonderful mentor to our student-athletes and his presence and positive energy will surely be missed," said PC Director of Athletics
Chris Bisignano. "We appreciate his dedication and efforts in leading our program over the past decade."
Away from Purchase, Eddie is a veteran administrator at Mott Haven Community High School in the Bronx. During the remote year and canceled 2020-21 season, he was promoted from Student Advisor to Program Director of the school's Learn to Work program.
Learn to Work is a program that assists students at their current school or transfer high schools to prepare for the workforce. The program helps secure paid internships for students so they can gain invaluable work experience while gaining real funds.
Eddie is also responsible for developing school-wide advisory curriculum, as well as school-wide initiatives around attendance, performance and socio emotional learning.
Eddie leaves behind a Panther career that includes 34 wins, an appearance in the Skyline Conference postseason tournament and a Purchase College Coach of the Year Award (2019).
An extensive search is underway for the new Purchase women's basketball coach.
