PURCHASE, N.Y. - Cheers echoed and splashes lingered as the curtains fell on the 2024 Skyline Conference Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Purchase College.
On the weekend, the men placed third out of five teams, which was their highest finish since the 2015 championships. For the women, they came in fifth, which was their best result since 2018.
Overall, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy emerged triumphant on the men's and women's side, securing their seventh consecutive win and setting nine new conference records.
RESULTS
Gabriel Schmid-Doyle capped off his senior season with a remarkable performance, shaving almost 13 seconds off his time in the 500-free.
Matthias Schmidt, alongside teammates David Whitmer, Daniel Karpf, and Luke Mallory, showcased exceptional teamwork in the 200-medley relay, improving their time by over six seconds.
The 200-free relay team, featuring Whitmer, Karpf, Mallory, and Juan Delossantos-DeLeon, demonstrated astounding improvement, finishing 21.2 seconds faster than their previous best.
On the women's side, Paris Judy set the Panthers ablaze with a series of personal bests, including an impressive performance in the 200-free, taking nearly seven seconds off.
Victor Vyssotski, tackled the 1000-free, shaving a remarkable 26.62 seconds off his previous best, while Renee Morancie-Edwards add to the exceptional performances by taking 9.54 seconds off during the 50-free.
Finally, in the 200-free relay, Judy, Isabella Morabito, Jaelyn Stevens, and Kale Cahill, finished 12 seconds faster.
On day two, Schmid-Doyle and Schmidt, were honored for competing in their final conference championship during the annual Senior Walkout.
While the Blue and Orange may not have carried home trophies, the swimmers had a stellar weekend, achieving new personal bests that affirmed their dedication and progress.
