Bronx, NY (Nov. 14, 2011) – The Purchase College swim teams split at SUNY Maritime Monday night, with the women edging the hosts, 95-88, and the men falling 104-72 in a matchup of conference elite.

The Skyline powers dueled to an exciting finish on both sides. The Panther women were paced by Patricia Fazzino (JR/Bayport, NY) (1st place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle), Allison Panzironi (FR/Pine Island, NY) (1st place finish in the 200 freestyle), Kamara Lewis (SO/Jamaica, NY) (1st place finish in the 50 free and the 100 butterfly), Alexandria Bodick (FR/New Canaan, CT) (1st place in the 200 IM), Christina Muller* (SR/Poughkeepsie, NY) (1st place in the 100 free) and a 200 MR team that garnered a quick 11 points in the first event, kick starting the evening on a high note. Bodick, Lewis, Muller and Bianca Covello (FR/Woodstock, NY) finished that event in a speedy 39.67.

Maritime was led by Mariel VanderLinden and Courtney Hill. VanderLinden won the 100 backstroke and Hill earned a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle.

The men fell behind following the first two events, but managed to hang tough with the perennial conference power as August Cook (JR/Syracuse, NY) touched first in the 200 freestyle and Joshua Nielson (SR/Saratoga Springs, NY) grabbed a first-place finish in the 200 IM. Seth Feingersh (SR/Bayside, NY) has a nice runner-up showing in the 100 butterfly and Cook continued his domination of the early season, winning the 100 freestyle in event 14.

However, the Privateers netted 16 points in event 16, taking first, second and third in the 100 backstroke. Those points put the contest out of reach for the Panthers.

Nonetheless, Cook would wrap a hard-fought effort with his third individual first-place finish in event 20. Cook sprinted to a 1:06.85 showing in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The men and women will be back in action Friday night at home as the Panthers welcome Lehman College to the Purchase pool for a 6 p.m. start.
