New Rochelle, NY (Sept. 27, 2011) – Women's volleyball was outlasted by the College of New Rochelle, 3-2, Tuesday night on the road.
 
The Panthers played another match close to the vest. “It went five, all excellent games,” said Purchase head coach Bill Kutner. “The team played really well, but we came up just short.”
 
Four of the team's seven losses this season have come in matches that went either four or five sets.
 
“The team is continues to improve and they're playing very well,” Kutner said. “We will be well prepared for October, where we play the majority of our conference matches.”
 
As for Tuesday night at CNR, the Panthers featured a strong group effort. Newcomer Katie Westervelt (FR/Congers, NY) finished with 32 assists, adding four service aces and five digs in the loss. Setter Lindsay Navagh (SO/Fulton, NY) handed out six more assists, while recording nine digs and three service aces.
 
Standout rookie Jenna Nardi (FR/Yorktown Heights, NY) looked sharp, pounding down seven kills, while adding 22 digs in an impressive defensive effort. Olivia Hintz (SR/East Aurora, NY) led the way with 13 kills. She also recorded 17 digs.
 
Cathryn Mulvey (SO/Scarsdale, NY) was also a big contributor. She finished with six kills and five digs. Lindsay Froman (SR/Medina, NY) and Mickaela Olson (SR/Glen Cove, NY) were equally impressive. Froman tallied four kills, six service aces and seven digs. Olson totaled an astounding 28 digs.   
 
“The entire team played very well,” Kutner noted. “I was very pleased, despite the final.”
 
The Panthers will now have a few days off before returning home to face York College on Monday night at 7 p.m.
