Purchase, NY
(Oct. 25, 2012) – The Purchase College men's and women's swim team began their quests towards championship victory lane Thursday night. The Panthers welcomed DII elite Adelphi University to the campus and narrowly dropped both ends of the meet.
Adelphi won 107-96 on the women's side and 117-73 on the men's side.
The Purchase women opened with a 200-yard medley relay victory behind
Haley Ryan (FR/East Hampton, NY),
Bianca Covello (SO/Woodstock, NY),
Francesca Litz (JR/Liverpool, NY) and
Kamara Lewis (JR/Jamaica, NY).
Lewis would later win the 50-yard freestyle (27.54), while Litz bested the field in the 200 IM.
Patricia Fazzino (SR/Bayport, NY) turned in a good showing in the 100-yard backstroke and
Mikaela Connors (FR/Grand Island, NY) outclassed the rest in the 100-yard breaststroke.
But Adelphi was able to edge the hosts, utilizing a balanced lineup throughout.
The rival non-conference Panthers won the 200 MR on the men's side, adding wins in the 200 free, 50 free, 200 IM, 100 free, 100 backstroke and the 500 free.
Purchase hung tough on the men's side, highlighted by solid performances from
Samir Mekrami (JR/Brooklyn, NY) and
Michael Kastner (JR/Windsor, CT).
Chris Lynch (JR/East Islip, NY) placed second in the 100 free and
William Anderson (FR/Bloomingburg, NY) led the way in the 100 backstroke (1:06.59).
Anderson would later place second in the 18th event – the 500 freestyle.
Adelphi capped the meet with strong shows down the back end, winning both 200-yard freestyle relays.
