Purchase, NY (Nov. 9, 2012) – Mount Saint Mary swim got the better end of Friday night's longstanding rivalry with Purchase.

The Knights, albeit tested by the host Panthers throughout, bested Purchase 116-89 on the women's side and 128-66 on the men's side.

MSMC was led by Lauren Becerra in the 1,000-yard freestyle after also topping Purchase in the men's 200 medley relay.

Purchase opened with a victory in the 200 women's medley relay, garnering 11 points, but the Knights responded with wins in the 1000 and the 200 freestyle.

In event seven, Kamara Lewis (JR/Jamaica, NY) won the 50-yard freestyle (27.41), helping the Panthers keep pace early. Francesca Litz (JR/Liverpool, NY) added another win for Purchase in the 200 IM before also capturing the 100 butterfly on a sparkling individual evening for the Purchase newcomer.

Michael Kastner (JR/Windsor, CT) placed second in the 100 butterfly, but MSMC kept the pressure on and took control with wins in events 13-18 before Mikaela Connors (FR/Grand Island, NY) won the 100 breaststroke for the Panthers.

MSMC would cap the victory with wins in the final two relays.

Purchase will now have a quick turnaround. The Panthers, looking to bounce back, welcome conference rival SUNY Maritime to the pool Monday night at 6 p.m.
