Bronx, NY (November 18, 2013) – The Purchase College women's and men's swimming teams came home with a split this weekend against Lehman College, with the women's team winning, 140-77, and the men's team losing, 152-77 Friday at the Apex Center.

In its win, the women's team was led by multiple winners Amanda Gibson, Haley Ryan, Catherine Rogers, Allison Panzironi and Francesca Litz

Gibson (JR/Saratoga, NY) was a triple winner – her success starting right away at the meet as she was part of the Panthers' winning 200-yard medley relay team (with a time of 2:08.95). She followed that up with a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:30.07 and a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:16.49.

Ryan (SO/East Hampton, NY) was a triple winner, too. She took home first in the 100 backstroke in 1:11.85, and was part of the Panthers' winning 200-yard freestyle relay team and the 200-yard medley relay team.

Like Gibson, Rogers (FR/Shoreham, NY) was part of the winning 200 medley relay team, along with teammates Bianca Covello (JR/Woodstock, NY) and Ryan. Gibson grabbed her second win by touching first in the 200 freestyle event with a time of 2:21.83.

Panzeroni (JR/Pine Island, NY) finished first in the 1,000 freestyle event with a time of 13:07.18, more than 1:12 minutes ahead of second-place finisher, teammate Sydney Cohen* (SR/Oceanside, NY). Panzeroni also touched first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:27.51, nearly 30 seconds ahead of her closest competitor from Lehman.

Litz (SR/Liverpool, NY) touched first in the 100 yard butterfly event in 1:14:49. She was also part of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished first in 1:59.18, swimming the event with Kayla Holland (FR/Hempstead, NY), Mikaela Connors (SO/Grand Island, NY) and Ryan. Litz also grabbed second-place points in the 200 IM event.

On the men's side, despite the loss, the Panthers got strong performances from Dexter Brierley and Matthew Brower, both of whom were double winners.

Brierley (JR/Brooklyn, NY) nabbed his double by getting a win in the 50 freestyle event with a time of 23.21 and a win in the 100 freestyle in a time of 51.58.

Brower (FR/Staten Island, NY) dominated the 1,000 yard freestyle event, touching first in 10:59.50, more than 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Lehman.

Later in the meet, he dominated again in the 500 freestyle, topping teammate Aaron Schwartz (SR/Nyack, NY) by more than a minute with a time of 5:38.60.

Both the men's and women's teams are back in action tomorrow as they head out on the road to take on SUNY College at Old Westbury at 6 p.m.
