Farmingdale Gets Better of Title Rematch

Strong Start Propels Rams to 78-62 Decision

Box Score

Purchase, NY (Dec. 7, 2013) – Despite a valiant effort in the second half, Purchase could not recover from a poor start Saturday, losing to Farmingdale State in a rematch of last winter's championship finale.

Although the Panthers fell by one possession in the title game in February, this installment was not as close with the visiting Rams earning a 78-62 win. The loss snaps Purchase's three-game win streak. The Panthers, now 3-3 overall, came into the game boasting a perfect home record of 3-0, but struggled to keep up with the Farmingdale offensively.

The Rams answered every call in the tilt. Purchase trailed 5-1 before Jess Lindsay (SR/Rochester, NY) sunk a two at 17:45 to close the gap. She would later bring Purchase back within 7-5 on another score in the first half. However, the Rams responded with a five-point spurt, including a 3-pointer from Camille Romero that increased the lead to 12-5. Another 3, this time from star Nicky Young, handed FSC a 15-5 lead.

The Panthers slowly crept back into the game. An April Uhl (FR/Jackson Heights, NY) top-of-the-key 3 in the final minute of the first stanza helped the Panthers finish the half down 44-28.

In the second half, the two teams actually matched offensive output, each scoring 34 points apiece, but the Panthers never recovered from the double-digit deficit, falling by 16 points in the loss.

For Purchase, Jazmin Garcia (JR/Peekskill, NY) put up a team-high 26 points. Despite the strong defense by Farmingdale, Garcia was still successful, shooting 10 of 17 from the paint and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc.

It was evident Farmingdale head coach Chris Mooney knew exactly who his players should press and keep off the ball, which resulted in no other double-digit point scorers by the Panthers.

Romero led the Rams with 29 points, shooting 100 percent from 3. Young, totaled 17 points in 30 minutes of play.
