Results Purchase, NY
(Oct. 23, 2014) – The men's and women's swim teams hosted Division II Adelphi University Thursday night in Purchase's home opener.
Although Purchase started strong and competed for a good portion of the meet, Adelphi was too strong en route to a 227-153 final. The men won 119-65 and the women won 108-88.
There were some bright spots, however, for the home Panthers.
On the women's side,
Lorena Peralta (FR/Bronx, NY) had a solid showing, finishing in second place in the 200-yard medley and the 100-yard backstroke.
Sarah Kynast (FR/Stony Point, NY) followed by finishing second in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly and helped lead Purchase to a first-place win in the 200 freestyle relay.
Haley Ryan (JR/East Hampton, NY) finished second in the 50 free.
Bianca Covello (SR/Woodstock, NY),
Anna Krol (SR/Oceanside, NY) and
Natalie Allen (JR/Staten Island, NY) took the first, second and third slots, respectively, in the 100 breaststroke.
On the men's side,
Sam Jaffe (SO/Silver Spring, MD) finished first in the 200 free.
Varun Soondar (SR/New Rochelle, NY) finished third in the 50 free and second in the 100 yard butterfly.
Taimu Tomita (FR/Tokyo, Japan) finished in first in the 100 breaststroke.
Adelphi, which won the 200 medley relay on both sides and then earned victories in each of the 1,000 events, ended the meet in exhibition. Adelphi's Zachary Mazur won the 50 free and the 100 butterfly, while Heather Miller took the 50 free and the 100 back for the visitors.
The Panthers will now get a small layoff as they are set to return on Nov. 12.
