(Nov. 14, 2014) – Visiting Mount Saint Mary upended Purchase in men's and women's swimming Friday night.
The Knights won 95-60 on the men's side and 104-87 on the women's side at Purchase.
MSMC started strong with victories in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 1,000-yard freestyle, jumping out to a 49-20 margin on the women's side and a 52-5 mark on the men's side after eight events.
The Knights, which won the women's championship and finished as runners-up on the men's side a year ago, looked strong in a matchup of conference rivals. MSMC was paced by standout Lauren Becerra, who won the 1,000 for the visitors. Purchase's
Alex Lally (SO/Sunnyvale, TX) finished second in the event. Becerra also finished first in the 200 IM. MSMC saw strong performances on the women's side from Rachael Stone and Kate Bell, who both logged first-place finishes. The Knight men were led by Sam Watson, Ryan Ward and Ryan Verillo, who also grabbed first-place finishes.
Despite the outcome, Purchase held its own, collecting first-place finishes in the 200 IM, thanks to standout
Sam Jaffe (SO/Silver Spring, MD), and the 100 butterfly behind
Jill Trazino (FR/New York, NY). Jaffe would later finish first in the 100 breaststroke, taking the event in 1:04.90.

Varun Soondar (SR/New Rochelle, NY) also finished second in the 100 fly,
Sarah Kynast (FR/Stony Point, NY) grabbed a second-place finish in the 100 free and fellow up-and-comer
Lorena Peralta (FR/Bronx, NY) tallied a second of her own in the 200 free.
Purchase, which also split with SUNY Maritime Wednesday, continues its conference homestand Monday, welcoming the College of Mount Saint Vincent to the campus.
