Results Purchase, NY
(Nov. 17, 2014) – The Purchase College men's and women's swim teams came out strong in tonight's home matchup, sweeping both ends against visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent.
In the process, the Panthers bounced back nicely from a pair of tough outings against SUNY Maritime and Mount Saint Mary last week, capping their homestand before the Thanksgiving break in the win column. Purchase, which finished off the meet in exhibition, combined for a 176-114 overall final. The Panther men earned a 74-54 decision, while the women swam to a 102-60 final, earning their second win in three conference contests. Meanwhile, the victory for the men was their first of the season.
Purchase was paced by
Sam Jaffe (SO/Silver Spring, MD), who finished first in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle. Rookie
Sarah Kynast (FR/Stony Point, NY) also had a solid performance, finishing first in the 100 and 200 freestyles, respectively.
Several other Panther swimmers followed suit.
Bianca Covello (SR/Woodstock, NY) finished first in the 200 IM;
Varun Soondar (SR/New Rochelle, NY) finished first in the 200 IM;
Chisei Tomita (FR/Tokyo, Japan) finished first in the 100 backstroke; and
Lorena Peralta (FR/Bronx, NY) finished first in the 500 freestyle.
For Jaffe and Peralta, the brilliant evening comes on a day when they both received conference weekly honors for their previous performances against Maritime and MSMC last week. Jaffe was named the league's swimmer of the week and Peralta earned an honor roll mention for rookie of the week. The two continued to perform well in the pool.
The Dolphins also had their fair share solid performances. Erin Maloney finished first in the 1,000 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and Kylee McGrane finished first in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Ryan Pena finished first in the 50 freestyle, while Nick Recarte finished first in the 100 freestyle and Quyen Loung finished first in the 100 breaststroke. Cyrus Ramos added a first in the 100 breaststroke for the visitors.
Purchase returns to action on Dec. 2 against SUNY College at Old Westbury, when the Panthers welcome the rival Skyline Panthers for another league matchup at home.
