Purchase, NY (Mar. 27, 2014) – Seven first-goals opened the floodgates for women's lacrosse Thursday, as Purchase steamrolled to a 13-2 victory over non-conference opponent Cedar Crest.

Samantha Rich (SO/Providence, RI) and Nathalie Lavelanet (JR/South Salem, NY) accounted for five goals apiece for the hosts, who recovered nicely from their defeat last time out against Farmingdale State. Annette Elson (SO/Las Vegas, NV), Rebecca Small (SO/South Glastonbury, CT) and LeiAnna Frazier (SR/Brooklyn, NY) also scored a goal each.

Purchase is now 3-1 to start the season.

Rich got Purchase on the board early, scoring the game's first goal at 28:46. About seven minutes later, she added her second strike of the afternoon. Small and Lavelanet would follow shortly after and the Panthers never looked back.

Regina Gill would net Cedar Crest's first score of the day to cut the deficit to 4-1, but Purchase, which led 7-1 at intermission, responded with five straight goals to push the lead to 9-1 midway through the second half. Chelsea Thompson would record the final goal for the visitors.

The dominant Panthers held advantages in nearly every category, including shots (38-21), ground balls (28-21), draw controls (7-6) and free position shot goals (4-6, 0-7).

While Purchase looked strong offensively, the defense played well against another young and developing program in Cedar Crest.

Leading the way defensively was Purchase's senior netminder. In goal, Jess Lindsay (SR/Rochester, NY) made 19 saves, including 11 in the second half en route to her third win of the season. Nicole Rivera, who turned away 19 shots, took the loss for Cedar Crest (0-4).

Purchase will have a quick turnaround and will now travel to St. Joseph's College-LI tomorrow for its next matchup.
