(Oct. 24, 2015) – The Purchase College swim teams opened their season Saturday at Division II Adelphi University.
Adelphi, a strong DII program, topped the Panthers in both ends of the meet. Adelphi posted a 40-37 victory on the women's side and a 70-6 win on the men's side.
The Purchase women were highlighted by wins in the 200-yard medley relay behind
Melissa Trail (SR/Pound Ridge, NY),
Natalie Allen (SR/Staten Island, NY),
Colleen Ferguson (FR/Marcellus, NY) and
Lorena Peralta (SO/Bronx, NY), the 100 IM, 50 free, 50 back and 50 breaststroke. Trail stole the show for the Panthers, piling up wins in the 100 IM, 50 free and 50 back, as well as the initial relay. Her three, first-place finishes were a bright spot for Purchase. Allen took first in the 50 back. Ferguson also had a nice afternoon, adding a first in the 50 fly and a second 500 free.
Adelphi captured the women's meet with wins in the 100 free, 50 fly, 400 free and 200 freestyle relay. The Adelphi men were strong from the outset and collected victories through the first five events en route to the win. Zachary Mazur won the 100 free and the 50 free to set the tone for the hosts.
