Box Score Purchase, NY
(March 30, 2015) – Season-opening win streak reaches seven!
That was the story Monday afternoon for the Purchase College women's lacrosse team. Spring Break recess couldn't even slow down the Panthers, who have reeled off seven in a row to start the 2015 campaign.
Purchase cruised to a 20-3 win over Albertus Magnus.
Purchase led 10-1 at the break, highlighted by three first-half goals from
Zoe Hines (FR/Maplewood, NJ) and
Samantha Rich (JR/Providence, RI).
The dynamic duo accounted for six of the first 10, with
Kelly Turtell (FR/Farmingdale, NY) adding three, including the first of the game, and teammate
Madi Smith (FR/Lagrangville, NY) contributing one in the first half and then the first goal of the second half to keep the pressure on the Falcons (1-9). Smith finished the day with three goals.
Hines, who is now second across NCAA Division III in goals, scored four for the game. She also finished with three assists, four ground balls and two draw controls.
Rich, who is now first in the country in draw controls for DIII, finished with 15 in that category, while adding a game-high five goals on 12 shots. The midfielder also contributed five ground balls on a day when she was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week for the second straight week.
Hines also garnered league recognition from the conference, winning her third straight Skyline Rookie of the Week Monday.
Turtell would finish with four goals as well. The newcomer added six ground balls, too. Fellow rookie
Daniella Martins (FR/Mahopac, NY) netted two second-half goals, as did
Amber Brisacone (FR/Monroe, NY).
Albertus scored one goal in the first half (Amanda Montano) and two in the second (Nikki Kern and Jenny Luna, respectively). Marie Case took the loss in goal for the visitors.
Netminder
Caitlin Sosa (JR/New York, NY) earned her seventh victory in the cage for Purchase.
The Panthers outshot AMC 45-8; won the draw control margin (17-5); the ground ball differential (31-12) and also forced 18 turnovers on the day.
Tuned up from non-conference action, Purchase will look to improve to 3-0 in league play Thursday at Mount Saint Mary.
