The Purchase College women's lacrosse team locked up a postseason berth Tuesday against the College of Mount Saint Vincent, pounding the Dolphins 21-6 on the road.
Purchase is now 10-1 overall and improves to 4-1 in the Skyline Conference standings. The victory dropped CMSV to 1-9, including 0-5 in the league.
The Panthers were carried offensively by a trio of scorers. Rookie sensation
Zoe Hines (FR/Maplewood, NJ), returning All-Skyline selection
Samantha Rich (JR/Providence, RI) and breakout rookie
Kelly Turtell (FR/Farmingdale, NY) each scored five goals apiece, accounting for 15 of the 21 scored on the day. Hines, the reigning conference rookie of the week, recorded five goals, four assists, three ground balls and one draw control, while Rich followed with five goals, one assist, seven ground balls and 10 draw controls. Fresh off a conference honor roll mention herself, Rich was dominant on the faceoff.
Turtell was equally impressive with five goals, two assists and two ground balls to her credit.
Maria Papp (JR/White Plains, NY),
Amber Brisacone (FR/Monroe, NY) and
Madi Smith (FR/Lagrangeville, NY) accounted for the remaining goals, with Papp scoring a hat trick, Brisacone notching a pair and Smith connecting on one goal in the resounding victory.
CMSV has three scorers score two goals each (Gabby Bravo, Rachel Steimel and Kelly Fraser). Kacie McCormack took the loss in net for the hosts.
Caitlin Sosa (JR/New York, NY) earned the win in the cage for Purchase. She recorded 10 saves in the win.
Purchase has three regular-season games remaining, including Cedar Crest on Thursday and SJC-LI at home on Saturday. The Panthers have two league games on the schedule are still battling for seeding in the conference tournament. The team is currently in third place. The final two Skyline matchups with SJC-LI (4/18) and FSC (4/25) will determine the program's first playoff spot.
