(April 8, 2015) – The best way to answer a loss is to come back with a win.
And that's exactly what the Purchase College women's lacrosse team did on Wednesday night. The Panthers soundly defeated Sage 18-7, bouncing back from a conference defeat to Mount Saint Mary last time out.
Midfielder
Samantha Rich (JR/Providence , RI) did it all tonight, pacing the Panthers in points(8) and draw controls(8). She assisted a goal by
Madi Smith (FR/Lagrangeville,NY) in the first 40 seconds of the game for a quick 1-0 lead.
However, Sage answered with a tying goal off the stick of Monica Koralus.
The two teams would trade strikes with
Amber Brisacone (FR/Monroe, NY) putting Purchase ahead 2-1 before Missy Schneiderman tied it at 2-2 for the visiting Gators.
Standout Panther rookie
Zoe Hines (FR/Maplewood, NJ) would score her 39th and 40th goals of the season in the first half as Purchase raced out to a 9-4 halftime margin.
Schneiderman added her second goal of the game in the first half and Shannon Farrell connected on her first of the season for Sage.
Brisacone added two more first-half goals and would finish the night with a season-high six for the game, finishing with her 14th of the season, which boosted the score to 15-6 in the second half.
Purchase and Sage traded goals for the first few minutes of the game, but after a 3-3 tie with 17:28 left in the opening period, the Panthers would go on a 5-1 run, taking the five-goal margin into halftime.
Farrell paced Sage, scoring three of their seven goals. Koralus notched nine draw controls and one goal in defeat.
The Panthers put the game out of reach with nine second-half goals.

Caitlin Sosa (JR/New York, NY) made eight saves en route to the team's eighth win of the season.
For Purchase, Hines finished with four goals and an assist;
Kelly Turtell (FR/Farmingdale, NY) contributed three goals, including the final two of the game for her 24th and 25th of the spring; Rich netted three goals, five assists and seven ground balls. Smith contributed two goals, one assist, two ground balls and one draw control in the victory.
With the loss Sage drops to 1-8 for the season and 1-3 in conference. Purchase rises to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the Skyline Conference.
The Panthers return to the field Saturday to face the University of Dallas on Senior Day.
