Panthers Battle to 5-4 Win Over Lehman

Bronx, NY (Sept. 15, 2015) – The Purchase College women's tennis team picked up their first win of the season with a 5-4 victory over Lehman College on the APEX Tennis Courts Tuesday afternoon. 

The Panthers tallied two wins at second and third doubles to open up play.  Caroline Haldeman-Emmerling (JR/Miami, FL) and Catherine Pasquale (SO/Valhalla, NY) defeated Kanto Rasedoara and Natalie Carrasquillo, 8-5, while teammates Nadia Shadi (FR/New York, NY) and Maggie Lavin (SO/Rockaway Beach, NY) shutout Janet Garcia and Nadia Baba by a score of 8-0, respectively.

Purchase led the Lightning 2-1 heading into singles play and battled to pick up three more points, including wins at the first, fourth and fifth spots.  Emma Yavel (JR/Brooklyn, NY) remains undefeated (2-0) at No. 1 singles after tallying a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Lehman's Princess Roache.

Pasquale and Nastaja Stepec (FR/New York, NY) rounded out the scoring for Purchase with collegiate debut wins.  Pasquale defeated Carrasquillo, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Stepec tallied a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Garcia at the No. 6 spot.
 
With the win, the Panthers advance to 1-1 on the season.  They return to the courts this Saturday with a home match against Pratt Institute at 11 a.m.
