(Oct. 21, 2016) - In their second dual meet of the season, the Panther swim teams traveled to Bard College, coming home with a 113-60 win from the women's side and a 129-48 loss on the men's side.
The Raptors included their counterparts from junior college Simon's Rock on the women's side, and had an 18-point advantage with their divers, but the Panthers were too strong. Both Purchase teams turned out quality swims at the non-conference competition.

The 200-yard medley relay team of
Lorena Peralta (JR/Bronx, NY),
Madi Smith (JR/Lagrangeville, NY),
Rachel Parker (SR/Glen Head, NY) and
Brigid Mckenna (JR/Tappan, NY) started off the meet with a first for Purchase. The 1,000-yard freestyle, immediately following the relay, saw captain
Colleen Ferguson (SO/Marcellus, NY) taking another first in 12:34.09 and
Jill Trazino (JR/New York, NY)Â placing third in 14:25.66.

The Panther women took first in six of the remaining eight events. Captain Peralta garnered first-place points in all of her individual events, swimming a 2:13.62 200 free and 1:12.90 100 backstroke, respectively. Parker also placed first in all her events, sprinting a 26.81 50 free and a 1:07.49 100 butterfly, respectively.

Other notable swims included a new personal best time for Smith in the 100-yard breaststroke, placing second in 1:25.36. McKenna took second in the 100 free with a time of 1:05.89, and Trazino also took second in the 100 back in 1:27.41.

Despite the loss for the Panther men, the team had notable swims from the Checchi brothers,
Sean Britton-Milligan (JR/Geneva, NY) and
Daniel Demopoulous (JR/White Plains, NY) among others.
Sebastian Checchi (JR/New Rochelle, NY) took first place in both his 200 and 500 free, swimming the events in 2:01.44 and 5:48.64, respectively.
Hernan Checchi (SO/New Rochelle, NY) won the 100 free in 58.67. Britton-Milligan sprinted to a second-place finish in the 50 free with a time of 26.57, and Demopoulos took second in the 200 free with a time of 2:11.20.

Corry Loveday (SR/Croseyville, NY) and
Robert Olejarz (JR/Brooklyn, NY) swam strong in the 100 breaststroke. Loveday took fourth in the event in 1:27.41, with Olejarz taking fifth in 1:29.42. Olejarz also took fifth in the 500 free right before his 100 breast, swimming the 500 in a new personal best of 7:37.62.

The Purchase women return to action at home for their first conference meet against St. Joseph's College on Friday, Nov. 4. Both teams swim fellow Skyline school, Maritime College, at home on Monday, Nov. 7.
