Newburgh, NY (Oct. 14, 2017) – The Purchase swim teams opened their season Saturday at Mount Saint Mary.

The Knights defeated the Panthers 181-27 on the men's side. They also captured a 190-32 win on the women's side, where Shayla McCarroll began her collegiate career for MSMC with three individual victories. For the Knights on the men's side, Mike Neugebauer won three individual events.

The Mount won each event in Saturday's meet, led by a trio of victories from Neugebauer. Neugebauer took the top spot in the 50-yard breaststroke and freestyle events as well as the 100-yard breaststroke. He posted times of 31.03 seconds, 23.55 seconds and 1:10.25, respectively.

McCarroll scored wins for the Mount in the 50 and 100-yard backstroke events and took the top spot in the 100-yard individual medley. Her winning times came in 31.66 seconds, 1:07.88 and 1:10.88, respectively.

Purchase was led on the women's side by Lorena Peralta (SR/Bronx, NY), who finished second in the 100 IM and third in the 200 free and 100 back. Madi Smith (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) added a second in the 50 breaststroke. On the men's side for the visitors, Robert Ashkinos (SR/Sparkill, NY) took second in the 100 breast and third in the 100 free.
