Purchase, NY
(Oct. 20, 2017) –
First-year head coach J. Brian Hansbury and the Purchase College women's swim team earned their first victory of the winter season Friday night in the program's home opener.
Although the men (0-2) would fall 114-37 in a hard-fought matchup to visiting Bard College, the women produced a 109-51 win to even their season at 1-1, and in the process hand their new skipper his first career college victory – and, of course, is first in Panther Blue and Orange.
"It's a great feeling," an elated Hansbury said afterward. "I'm proud of both the men and women tonight. They competed and put in a good performance. We have a lot of work to do, but this is a step in the right direction."
The Purchase women won the 200-yard medley relay behind
Katherine Lopez (JR/Dix Hills, NY),
Rachel DeSimone (SO/Red Hook, NY),
Madi Smith (SR/LaGrangeville, NY) and
Jill Trazino (SR/New York, NY) (2:20.11).
DeSimone returned and won the 200 freestyle in 2:36.35. Lopez would later post a first-place showing in the 200 IM (2:52.62).

On the men's side for the Panthers,
Daniel Demopoulos (SR/Scarsdale, NY) took second in the 200 free and the 100 butterfly to pace the hosts.
