(Nov. 7, 2017) – The Purchase College men's swim team earned its first win of the season Tuesday, as the Panthers swam SUNY Maritime and St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn at Maritime.
Purchase defeated SJC-BKLYN 75-18 on the men's side, but fell 119-37 against Maritime. Maritime also defeated St. Joe's 118-12 on the men's side. On the women's side, Maritime swept again, posting a 134-58 win over Purchase and a 125-64 victory against St. Joe's. SJC-BKLYN also defeated Purchase 100-79.
"We were a different team, tons of spirit and support of all the swimmers," Panther
head coach J. Brian Hansbury said afterward. The Maritime coaching staff was very complimentary of the group and the difference in the overall energy."
The Panther women were paced by
Lorena Peralta (SR/Bronx, NY), who captured a second-place in the 200 IM and a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Kristen O'Reilly (SR/Bronx, NY),
Katherine Lopez (JR/Dix Hills, NY),
Eric Lee (FR/Bayside, NY),
Robert Olejarz (SR/Brooklyn, NY) and
Robert Ashkinos (SR/Sparkill, NY) also turned in some solid performances on the night.
The Privateers opened up Skyline competition and put forth a strong effort as the men's team registered the fastest times in all 11 of the teams events, while the women's team took first in nine of the 11 events contested including both relay results.
For the Purchase men, it's the team's first victor of the winter season.
