New Rochelle, NY
(Jan. 20, 2018) – The Purchase College men's and women's swim teams swung back into action Saturday at the College of New Rochelle for a non-conference meet.
The Panthers utilized the matchup as a warm-up to this week's Skyline Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, set to be hosted at Purchase on Friday and Saturday.
The host Blue Angels posted victories on both ends of the meet, defeating Purchase 96-87 on the women's side and 113-44 on the men's side. CNR won 10 of the 11 events on the men's side, but Purchase took advantage of its first competitive action in the pool in over a month to gear up for the finals, especially on the women's side, where
Rachel Parker (SR/Glen Head, NY) shined in her return to the team.
Swimming for the first time this season, Parker touched the wall with top times on the day in the 100 Fly (1:03.12); 50 Free (26.68); and 100 Free (1:00.09). Teammate
Lorena Peralta (SR/Bronx, NY) also dazzled, winning the 200 free. Peralta teamed with both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams for first-place finishes, too.
In addition,
Alex Lally (SR/Mesquite, TX) put together a strong performance. She won the 50 backstroke (41.48) and teamed with Peralta,
Madi Smith (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) and
Rachel DeSimone (SO/Red Hook, NY) on the opening relay. DeSimone, Peralta, Lally and
Brigid Mckenna (SR/Tappan, NY) earned the first-place finish in the 200 free relay. Mckenna, like Parker, was making her return to the pool for the first time this season.
Christopher Keenan (FR/Elmsford, NY) was a bright spot for the Panther men, winning the 50 breaststroke. He touched first behind a 20.59 time.
For CNR, Yashua Lockhart-Derry and Aaron Williams each won three individual events. Williams set two school records Saturday in the 50 breaststroke and the 100 breaststroke. On the women's side, Chloe Wang won three events, while Eileen Chia picked up two victories.
