(April 10, 2018) – Purchase women's lacrosse lost for the first time this season.
The Panthers fell 17-6 at St. Joseph's College-LI Tuesday. The Golden Eagles snapped Purchase's seven-game win streak. The Panthers are now 7-1, including 2-1 in league play. SJC-LI improved to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference.
Kelly Turtell (SR/Farmingdale, NY) scored three of Purchase's six goals.
The Golden Eagles scored first when Alexis Hillman connected with Ally Johnston 2:30 into the game. The Panthers answered with two straight free position goals from
Gabriella Castles (FR/Bethpage, NY) and
Zoe Hines (SR/Maplewood, NJ) to take their only lead of the evening.
Nicole Stoppelli sparked a 7-0 run for the Golden Eagles that Johnston capped with back-to-back goals to extend the SJC lead to 8-2.
Hines connected with Turtell twice in the final two minutes of the half to send the team into the break with the score at 8-4.
Despite being held to just one goal through the first 11 minutes of the second frame, the Golden Eagles went on to outscore the Panthers 9-2, earning the 17-6 win.
SJC-LI's Kristin Carroll recorded a season-high seven goals with five ground balls and three draw controls in the victory.
Turtell added seven draw controls in the loss.
