Swim Teams Begin Season with Losses at William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J. - The Purchase College swim teams kicked off the 2021-22 season Saturday evening, as the Panthers competed against the Pioneers of William Paterson University in a non-conference meet.

The final results favored the hosts, as William Paterson won the men's and women's matchups by the scores of 55-25 and 99-53 respectively. Despite the losses, the return to action was more than welcome for Purchase, as the swim teams hadn't competed in a meet since January 26, 2020.

On the women's side, Brienne Westfall (JR/Grand Island, NY) led the charge with a first-place finish in the 500-free, finishing in a time of 6:13.69. She also collected second in the 200-IM earlier in the meet.

Elsewhere, the Panthers got another second-place finish on the night, courtesy of Stephanie Rhodes (JR/Rockville Centre, NY) in the 200-free and a third-place result in the 50-free from Diana Gilday (SR/Bellrose, NY).

For the men's side, Gabriel Schmid-Doyle (SO/Canton, NY) provided the only non-exhibition top-3 finish, when placed third in the 50-free.
