PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College men's and women's swim teams were defeated in their home openers Tuesday night, as the programs lost to Maritime College and St. Joseph's College-Long Island in a Skyline Conference tri-meet.
On the men's side, Maritime topped Purchase by the score of 100-42. Meanwhile for the women's matchup, the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's-Long Island bested the Panthers, 108-59, and the Privateers of Maritime outlasted PC, 81-69.Â
Individually, the men's team got three third-place finishes on the night, courtesy of
Tyler Perpall (SO/Westbury, NY) in the 50-free,
Aidan Mauer (JR/Poughkeepsie, NY) in the 100-free and
Matthias Schmidt in the 200-IM.Â
As a team, the Panthers placed second in the 200-free relay, as the quartet of Mauer, Perpall, Schmidt and
Gabriel Schmid-Doyle (SO/Canton, NY) finished in 1:48.36.
For the women's side,
Brienne Westfall (JR/Grand Island, NY) led the way with two second-place finishes in the 200-IM and the 500-free.
Elsewhere,
Stephanie Rhodes (JR/Rockville Centre, NY) and
Mackenzie Gunning (SR/Wantagh, NY) collected third-place results in the 100-back and 50-free respectively.

Up next for the swim teams is more tri-meet action, as the Panthers travel to Sarah Lawrence College to face-off against the Gryphons and Baruch College. That meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. on November 13th.Â
