PURCHASE, N.Y.
– The Purchase College men's and women's swim teams hosted William Paterson for a non-conference meet on Saturday. Despite impressive individual performances, the Panthers closed both ends of the matchup in defeat. The women's team fell 81-62 to the visiting Pioneers, while the men's team was bested 112-55.
Senior captain Brienne Westfall (Grand Island, NY) secured a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.09. The Panther standout also clocked in a 200-yard freestyle time of 2:16.07—good enough for second place.
Reece Brooks (SR/Schuylerville, NY) raced to a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, punching the clock at 1:14.95.
Chloe McDonald (FR/Highland Falls, NY) also lit up the No. 2 board for Purchase with a notable 50-freestyle finish. The rookie hit the pad at 29.45, trailing close behind top-finisher Hailey Krajewski (28.60) of William Paterson.
On the men's side,
Matthias Schmidt (SR/White Plains, NY) led all swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.78). He followed the No. 1 finish with second place tallies in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.85) and the 100-butterfly (1:02.80), respectively.
Senior co-captain
Nicholas Switalski (Buffalo, NY) finished second overall in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:18.61. In the same race, teammate and co-captain
Aidan Mauer (Poughkeepsie, NY) clocked in a fourth-place finish at 2:27.30.
The Panthers will dive back into action on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Hunter College.
