BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Purchase College men's swim team opened the 2023 portion of its schedule with a dominant showing against non-conference Brooklyn College Thursday evening. The Panthers topped the host Bulldogs, 91-75, inside BC's West Quad Pool, resulting in the team's second win of the season.
RESULTS
Purchase lit up the board first, with the team capturing the 200-yard medley relay behind the efforts of
Aidan Mauer (SR/Poughkeepsie, NY),
Eli Stiewing (SR/Brooklyn, NY),
Daniel Karpf (JR/Floral Park, NY) and
Nicholas Switalski (SR/Buffalo, NY).
Mauer broke the individual scoring ice with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:30.97). Less than four seconds later (2:34.82), teammate
Gabriel Schmid-Doyle (JR/Canton, NY) hit the pad to secure second place. Karpf finished third a time of , 2:36.02.
Brooklyn answered back with a first-place finish in the 50-free but Purchase countered in the next event, courtesy of a 200-yard IM performance (2:22.85) from
Matthias Schmidt (SR/White Plains, NY).
Switalski and Schmid-Doyle closed out the individual festivities with first and second-place finishes, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle.
Backed by the efforts of
Jules Cabirol (SO/Riverdale, NY), Stiewing, Switalski and Schmidt in the 200-free relay, Purchase capped its scoring and secured the non-conference win.
Purchase will return to action again on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at home against SUNY Maritime. The Jan. 17 meet against Pratt Institute has been postponed.
